We continue among the woods and dunes to the Gypsy Path. A brisk walk along the beach takes us back to Lifeboat Road and the church. Because we will be walking on sand I have graded this as moderate although it is flat with no obstacles. National Trust members could park at the Lifeboat Road Car park at 12.45 and walk up to the church if space is limited. | Sat, 10th October 10:30am | Beacon Fell and The Brock Valley 7mi (M) Chorley Group A short while after leaving the visitors centre there will be some walking on quiet but pleasant lanes until we reach Brock Bottom where we shall follow the River Brock through the woodlands. Please be aware as we go into Autumn some of the paths may be muddy. There are picnic tables available at Brockmill where we can stop for lunch after which we will carry on to Boggy Wood to join Snape Rake Lane and continue until we reach the permitted path through Waddicar Scout Camp. More woodland paths until we reach field paths with open views of the Bowland Hills. We then climb back up to Beacon Fell for the last stage of the walk. | Sun, 11th October 11:00am | Around Anglezarke Reservoir taking in White Coppice and Healey Nab 8.1mi (M) Chorley Group Join us for a varied circular walk around Anglezarke Reservoir. Starting in Heapey, going via White Coppice and The Goit we will have some great views of the reservoir from Spen Cob. We will enjoy a good mix of reservoir-side paths, woodland and open countryside, with plenty of good views along the way. Towards the end of the walk we will climb onto Healey Nab. The walk is undulating with a few steady climbs. We will take the climbs at a comfortable pace with time to stop for a drink and also a snack/lunch along the way Paths are generally good, although some sections can be uneven, muddy or wet underfoot, particularly after rain, so walking boots or sturdy walking shoes are recommended. From there we will head across to Healey Nab, where we may be treated to some good views across the Fylde. We will return on the bridleway along the side of Anglezarke Reservoir. The walk is almost entirely on good paths, although there may be the possibility of one or two muddy fields. | Sat, 17th October 10:00am | The mines of Reeth and Reeth High Moor in Swaledale. 12.5 miles moderate. 12.5mi (M) Hike On Lancashire Group The first walk of our Reeth weekend away. Our Sunday walk will be for those on the weekend only to give us some choice in route. Swaledale contains lots of heritage mine sites which add a great interest to walks in this area. We will begin our walk along the Coast to Coast route towards Keld. This takes us past Old Gang Mills- smelt mills- and up towards Surrender Bridge. From there we will ascend Reeth High Moor along tracks and survey some more great industrial heritage of the area. We will drop down and use valley paths back into Reeth. There is height gain up onto the moor but quite a lot of sections are decent tracks. Boots still needed for the moor though! Continuing down we pass through the new housing before joining the canal. After following the tow path passed Botany we leave at the Malthouse to climb Chapel Lane before returning on the track passed Eagle Tower to the cars. Park on Higher House Lane near to its junction with Heapey Road. If coming by bus, the nearest bus stop is on Blackburn Road after it crosses the M61. We will stroll along the avenue, down the steps and head towards the new basin associated with the millennium link. Form here, we will make our way to Tom Benson Way, picking up the Millennium Link and guild wheel eventually making the way to the Final Whistle Cafe on the canal. Returning to the tow path we then leave it at Riley Green to follow the tracks down to the River Darwen. After a short stretch of the river we climb through woodland to cross the main road and canal to reach Stanworth Farm. | Sat, 7th November 7:45am | COACH WALK - LLANDUDNO- LITTLE ORME TO GREAT ORME 8mi (M) Chorley Group We will start the walk with a short climb up to the trig point on Little Orme where we will have great views ahead of us towards Great Orme. Then dropping down to The North Wales Path which follows the Promenade until we reach the Pier. From there we will make our way up to Happy Valley climbing steadily up to St Tudno's Church and the little cemetery, and onwards to the trig point on Great Orme Summit. We will drop down steadily towards the Haulfre Gardens and head back towards the pier where we can have a chance for refreshments before heading back to the coach for our journey home. | Sun, 15th November 10:45am | Brindle, Withnell Fold & the Lost Farms of Brinscall Moor (11-mile moderate) 11mi (M) Hike On Lancashire Group An 11-mile moderate walk taking in several historical locations. We start in the village of Brindle, further down Water Street from its church which dates back to the 12th century: we will meet in the Brindle Community Hall car park ready to depart at 10.45. We then walk to the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, crossing the bridge over to the disused paper mill and 19th century 'model village' of Withnell Fold. Next, we progress through fields and the Oak Royal Golf Club to the village of Withnell where we shall stop for lunch. Renourished, we then head up onto Brinscall Fell where we can explore the remains of several of the 50 farms that were ‘cleared’ by Liverpool Corporation Waterworks Department over the first part of the 20th century, notably ‘Botany Bay’ and ‘Ratten Clough’ (the latter being the best-preserved, having been vacated only in 1960). Heading down through Wheelton Plantation, we then head down through the village of Wheelton to the Leeds-Liverpool Canal. We'll walk along the canal for close to a mile before making our way back up to the village of Brindle, and partaking of the traditional post-walk drinks in The Cavendish Arms Outside Brindle Community Hall. The walk first follows the A59 for half a mile then crosses over into Sandy Lane passing Moss Side Farm to follow a field edge path by Smithy Wood. A farm track is then followed to join Hunter's Lane and to pass Hunter's Plantation. After following the metalled Green Lane the walk returns to Sollom after re-crossing the A59 road.
