Mid Lancashire Area Ramblers

From the initial responses to our Navigation Course questionnaire, it seems many members are keen to improve their skill in finding and navigating walks.

So, we are proposing a workshop of around 4 hours duration (9.30-1.30) in a central location, in late spring/early summer.

Navigating a route

Draft outline.

  • Assuming using at least a location app, and probably a mapping app.
  • Using OS Apps for specific examples (OutdoorActive and Alltrails largely similar)
  • Basic map reading (applies equally to apps and paper maps)
  • Navigation issues (assuming phone use for location)
  • OS Maps (more in depth usage)
  • Finding routes  (and more relevantly how to load into apps)
Almost all of the time will be hands on.
These details will be adjusted based on the needs of attendees and full details will be provided before the workshop

Requirements:

  • You will need at least a location app (OS Locate [free])
  • Even if you want to work with paper maps, it would be appropriate to install OS Maps for the workshop (use trial period)
If this workshop is of interest to you, please complete the questionnaire HERE (no need to repeat it if you responded before - though there is a comment section now).
